The Around the Ranch Ride is a complete experience of riding over the entire 400 acre mountain property. This guided horseback ride takes you through the heart of the ranch covering many different types of terrain. You'll cross creeks, wind through wooded trails, open meadows and take in stunning Blue Ridge views at every turn.
Riders will break for lunch at the picturesque mountain cabin overlooking Skyline Drive. Enjoy a BBQ picnic lunch on a rustic covered porch or under a covered pavilion. After lunch, we'll remount and follow the spectacular rock outcrop formation trail to a 3,000 ft. long ridge overlook of Shenandoah National Park. Come experience the simple pleasure of horseback riding and discover why so many guests return to ride with us again and again.

RIDE & HIKE EXCURSION
ALL-DAY ADVENTURE - HIKE, SWIM, BBQ, & HORSEBACK
WATERFALLS, TRAILS, & GOOD TIMES
This all-day excursion is a memory you wont forget! Your day begins at 10:00 AM with a guided tour down our private trails to a stunning 40 foot and 60 foot waterfall that flows into Naked Creek - right in the heart of Shenandoah National Park.
Once at the falls, you'll have plenty of time to explore, take photos, and spend time in the deep swimming hole at the base. It's a steep hike down, but we provide transportation back up the mountain road so there's no steep climb on the way out.
After the hike and swim, guests are invited to our main cabin where we'll enjoy a delicious BBQ picnic lunch at our rustic covered porch or pavilion.
Finish the day with a relaxing horseback ride through scenic trails. You'll meet your horse, ride through beautiful forests and meadows, and take in the best of the mountains - an unforgettable combination of adventure, views, and good food.

Your waterfall hike is led by Shannon Wyant, a lifelong Appalachian native from the historic community of Jollett Hollow. With deep family roots that span generations in these mountains, Shannon offers far more than a guided hike - he shares the stories, traditions, and rich heritage of Appalacia that have been passed down through his family for decades.
As you make you way along the trail, Shannon brings the mountains to life with fascinating local history, colorful folklore, and personal stories that connect guests to the people and culture of this remarkable region. His knowledge of the land, warm personality, and genuine love for Appalacia make the journey to the waterfalls as memorable as the destination itself.

RIDE PACE
All rides are at a walk, with opportunities to trot in open areas suitable for your group.
ALL AGES WELCOME
Children allowed to ride double (ages 5 & under) with an adult.
CLOSED-TOE SHOES
All rides MUST wear long pants and closed-toe shoes for safety.

CANCELLATION POLICY
In the event of inclement weather, we will issue a full refund if rescheduling is not an option. Aside from inclement weather, we do not offer any other cancellation policy for a refund. We are, however, happy to reschedule you if possible. While a little bit of rain never hurt anyone, we advise you check the weather the day of and dress accordingly. Some rides might not always be available due to trail conditions, the number of horses we have available, or other unforseen reasons. Please check with the hostess of Mountaintop Ranch before making your final plans to ensure a smooth ride!
